French food has to rank up there as one of my all time favourite cuisines. After my brief holiday in France in 2008, I was hopelessly hooked to the French way of dining. So whenever an opportunity presents itself to try out a new French restaurant that I’ve never been, I jump at the chance. Did Frenchy’s Bistro’s dinner meal delight and enthral me like our previous French restaurant did?Unfortunately, I forgot to take any snaps of the interior or exterior of the restaurant, suffice to say that it was well furnished inside and a fairly ordinary affair outside. In fact, we had trouble finding the place after our navigation software lead us somewhere in the vicinity of The Glen Shopping Centre.
Shortly after we arrived, we keenly poured over the menu and ordered two entrees and two mains. Our food wasn’t bad nor was it awful. If I had to describe it, I would probably say the food was average, standard, nothing special. It seemed like it was missing something, some element of taste that I can’t describe. I wasn’t blown away by any of the dishes and neither was my guest. The French onion soup had the right texture, a generous portion of cheese and bread, but it just seemed… ordinary tasting. The salmon fillet also did not have that succulent taste explosion in my mouth that I am accustomed to whenever I dine French food. The Duck l’orange was tasty, yet slightly overdone and chewy. Prices were roughly $18 for entrees and $28-35 for mains.
Service was mildly entertaining, in the fact that both the waiters that served us were slightly eccentric types, and caused a few chuckles in the way they presented themselves. There was an incident that put me off the service somewhat; I had ordered a beer and the waiter had come out with our drinks stating that the beer I had ordered was finished for the night and had already opened another brand of beer in front of us. He said it was very similar to the one I ordered and asked if I minded trying it. Was I going to say no after he already opened the bottle?
On the whole, the food was average and the service slightly off putting. From what I could tell from our experience at Frenchy’s Bistro, there are much better places to find great tasting French food and great service to boot.
Not Recommended.
